One of the major benefits implicit in most wedding insurance policies is liability insurance – for both you and your guests. The truth is that weddings bring out much of the silliness in people, and the alcohol tends to bring out the rest. Whether it’s spilled drinks, damaged clothing or broken furniture, having a decent wedding insurance policy will help to ensure that any lost deposits, damage costs or replacements are covered, allowing you to relax a little.

However, there are times when the liability insurance element is rather more important, and extends beyond a torn jacket, broken vase or a little red wine spilled on the carpet. In Tuscany, for example, a happy couple had decided to push the boat out, and do something a little different when it came to throwing the Bride’s bouquet.

They actually hired a plane to fly overhead, from which the bouquet would be dropped into the crowd. What a splendid idea! What could possibly go wrong?

The plane swooped down, the crowd gasped in amazement, the bouquet was tossed from the open door, and then was immediately sucked back into the engine, causing the plane to catch fire and explode.

Fortunately it managed to ditch in a nearby field, and although one passenger was seriously injured, everyone else remained unscathed, albeit somewhat breathless.

It’s events like this which can sometimes help to put a little rip, a small stain or a broken glass into perspective, but whatever the disaster, be it big or small, be it by your hand or one of your less reliable guests, having a decent wedding insurance policy in place that covers you and your guests for liability will at least help you to let your hair down and enjoy the day.

Having said that, it might be worth reconsidering the jet plane fly-by over the crystal glassware champagne pyramid.
