My Heart Will Go On, (But My Carriage Might Not)
When it comes to wedding insurance claims, there is very little chance of them being run-of-the-mill. Wedding insurance claims have a tendency to be somewhat unusual, and often make good reading for those people in the comfortable position of having been there and done it.
Comfort was certainly not the order of the day for one unfortunate Bride who had rather expected to be driven to her wedding in a luxury limousine. She had seen the glossy photographs, and booked a top of the range stretch limousine to escort her to the wedding. It was not the happiest of moments when, on the morning of the wedding itself, she received a telephone call to inform her that, unfortunately, the driver had just had his license taken away by the police, and there was nobody available that day to replace him.
A few mildly frantic calls later and it seemed as though a miracle had been produced especially for her magical day. Another limousine firm just happened to have a spare vehicle and driver available. With nerves somewhat jostled, the preparations for hair, makeup and dress went ahead, until various faces began peering through the window, expecting the replacement car to arrive at any moment.
Instead, however, the telephone rang again, and the bride received the message that sadly, on the way to collect her the driver had been involved in an accident, and the car had been written off.
It doesn’t take a great deal of imagination to create a picture of frantic Bride, desperate mother, anxious Bridesmaids and various assorted family members. Decapitated hens parachuted into the middle of a minefield might be a good start.
Fortunately the Bride managed to make it to the church without having to resort to the Number 23 bus, but arriving at her wedding in her father’s Skoda wasn’t quite the glamorous picture she’d always imagined. Still, at least it gave the wedding insurance representatives another tale to tell at the next dinner party.
