Wedding Insurance and Swine Flu
There have now been many thousands of reported cases of swine flu in the UK with 130 recorded deaths according to flucount.org. There’s a real chance that someone in your wedding party may come down with swine flu before the big day so we thought we’d see how many of the popular wedding insurance providers provide cover should this happen to you.
Most wedding insurance policies provide cover for re-arrangement should the Bride or Groom or a close family member fall ill before the big day, but this doesn’t always cover illnesses such as swine flu, or indeed other forms of influenza.
Debenhams
Yes – So long as it’s not a pre-existing condition (i.e. you didn’t have it when you took the policy out) you will be covered.
Cover is provided for the Bride, Groom and close relatives.
Weddingplan
Yes – Again, so long as it’s not a pre-existing condition.
Cover is provided for the Bride, Groom and close relatives.
Covermywedding
Yes – Again, so long as it’s not a pre-existing condition and cover is extended to close relatives.
E&L
No – Whilst cover for other illnesses is provided, this does not include swine flu, or any other form of influenza.
Whilst cover for swine flu might be included, we were told when we spoke to Debenhams that should (and it’s highly unlikely to ever happen) the Government ban public celebrations in an attempt to halt a swine flu outbreak, cover would, of course, not apply.
