Wedding Cancellation Insurance
Whilst most weddings have the odd 'hiccup' that's usually unnoticeable to most guests, it's actually rare for anything major to go wrong. It's even rarer that the whole wedding needs to be re-arranged or even cancelled altogether. However, unfortunately this does sometimes happen and as suppliers and venues need to be re-booked or deposits even lost altogether, the cost of doing so can often be considerably high.
Fortunately, that's where wedding cancellation insurance can help. Such a policy can protect you financially against circumstances that might force you to re-arrange or cancel your big day. If deposits are lost, these should be recovered and if you incur any additional costs in having to re-arrange suppliers, these extra costs should be met by the insurance company.
There are a number of UK based insurers, including some high street names, that provide wedding cancellation insurance. Premiums are not as expensive as you might think either, with cover for the smallest weddings available for under £20!

Here are some situations that might result in your wedding being cancelled or postponed and you needing to make a claim on your wedding cancellation insurance policy:
Illness/Death or Injury to the wedding party
Most policies will cover in this instance - exceptions being if it was a pre-existing illness. Some policies will not cover in the case of Swine flu, given its widespread incidence and difficulty in diagnosing.Redundancy
Some policies will cover in the case of redundancy of the bride or groom, which is reassuring if you are in a vulnerable industry or position. If you were suddenly made redundant, the last thing you need is to be committed to paying thousands of £s on a wedding, when you are already worrying about the mortgage!Posting overseas with armed forces
Some providers will cover for this - which is essential if one of the bride or groom is in the armed forces and likely to be posted abroad. It wouldn't be much of a wedding if one of them was absent!Inability of venue to hold wedding
This is included in most policies and would cover situations such as the venue going out of business, flooding, double booking two events or suffering a fire.Change of heart by bride or groom
Sadly, most insurers will not cover in this case, giving the reason that the situations that are covered are those that are outside of the control of the bride and groom. It does protect them against fraud, so you can see why they have taken this line, but it means you'll need to take your chances with your betrothed! As with all financial products, you should carefully check the policy documents to ensure that particular product is the right wedding cancellation insurance for you.
