In a recent press release, the Associastion of British Insurers (ABI) have highlighted some of the common things that can go wrong at a wedding and emphasised the need for wedding insurance to protect couples’ big days.
They listed plenty of wedding mishaps that wedding insurance can cover including:
- The DJ not turning up
- The photographer’s camera breaking
- A public liability claim as a result of someone slipping on a spilt drink
- Bankruptcy of a supplier, such as the florist or caterer
Nick Starling, Director of General Insurance and Health at the ABI said: “While wedding insurance can’t guarantee that everything will go without a hitch, it can give you the peace of mind that any unforeseen events will be covered and go a long way to easing those pre-wedding jitters. It won’t cover your other half getting cold feet, but it can reassure you that an already expensive day doesn’t become even more costly.”
The ABI quoted the average wedding cost to be close to £20,000 (although we’ve recently found it to be much lower than this) which is likely to be the third most expensive purchase a couple will ever make! It’s therefore certainly sensible to consider protecting it with wedding insurance in case something goes wrong.
